About Perth

Perth, la mia amata Perth, bhe che dire di Perth….
E’ stata il punto di partenza dell’avventura più straordinaria della mia vita, appena arrivato qui mi sentivo spaesato e non riuscivo a capire nulla di quello che mi dicevano le persone del luogo con il loro tipico slang Australiano, potete solo immaginare come mi sentivo i primissimi giorni. Fortunatamente, dopo i questi gironi di adattamento alla mia nuova vita, mi sono innamorato di questa città, tutto era perfetto, Vinka che era la signora che mi ospitava in casa sua era molto gentile e pronta ad aiutarmi, i compagni di scuola erano fantastici, gli insegnanti simpaticissimi, ho visitato tantissimi posti e devo dire la verità, non mi sarei mai aspettato che l’Australia fosse così bella, sapevo che era un bel posto, ma Perth ha saputo stupirmi, il che non è facile… Posso senz’altro dire che Perth è stato il posto che mi ha regalato l’esperienza di vita più ricca ed emozionante di tutto il mio viaggio perchè qui ho imparato a capire le culture dei vari studenti che frequentavano la scuola, ho creato tantissime amicizie, molte delle quali con persone che provengono dal Giappone o Brasile (spero di rincontrarli un giorno nelle rispettive nazioni) e sicuramente questa esperienza mi ha reso più sensibile su determinati argomenti, in poche parole Perth  è stata qualcosa di magico 🙂

Perth, my beloved Perth.. What can I share with you about Perth…
Perth was the start of my adventure. However, I struggled and was little lost while I was there as I was unable to understand Australian slang, you can imagine how lost I felt. Luckily, I was able to adapt fast and I fell in love with the city.
During my stay there, I was guest by Vinka. She is kind and ever ready to help. School mates were terrific and teachers were friendly too! I have been to many places and have never thought that Australia could be so breath-taking! Perth is one of the cities that offered me the richest life experience during my entire trip as I learnt different cultures and made new friendships, most of whom were Japanese and Brazilian (I hope that I will be able to visit them in their home country). This has enabled me to be more sensitive when I am speaking to people of different cultures. In essence, Perth is a magical place 🙂

An adventure into the dark

Eccoci qui!!! Benvenuti nella Calgardup Cave, una delle caverne più grandi del sud-est Australia. Questo viaggio nell’insegna dell’avventura era stato organizzato dalla scuola e per motivi a me sconosciuti io e Martin eravamo gli unici maschi del gruppo (guida a parte), in ogni caso non è stato un problema perchè tutte le ragazze sono state abbastanza coraggiose da combattere contro la paura dei buio e dei pipistrelli. Una volta entrati nella caverna, per la gioia delle ragazze, abbiamo scoperto che i pipistrelli non erano più nella caverna e che la luce montata sopra i nostri caschetti era più che sufficiente ad illuminare la caverna. Ancora una volta è stato possibile ammirare la potenza della natura, che è stata capace di creare magnifiche stalactiti e stalagmiti, inoltre abbiamo notato la presenza dell’acqua nella caverna, il che non era male visto che mi ha aiutato ad ottenere foto suggestive grazie al suo riflesso.

Here we are!!!!! Welcome to Calgardup Cave, one of the biggest cave down to the south west Australia. This adventurous trip down to the south west Australia was organized by the school and somehow Martin and me were the only men into the group (beside the tour guide), anyways no matter because all the girls were brave enough to fight against the fear of the darkness and the scare of the bats… Once we were into the Cave, for the happiness of the ladies, we discovered that the bats were not anymore into the cave and that the light on our helmets was more than enough to bright the Cave. Once again we could admire the power of the nature which was able to make amazing stalagmites and stalactites. We even discovered the presence of the water into the Cave, which helped me to take interesting photos with the water reflection.

Down to Cape Leeuwin

Cape Leeuwin è una piccola cittadina nella regione di Margaret River, regione molto popolare per i suoi vini, inoltre è uno dei pochi posti al mondo dove due oceani si incontrano, nel caso di Cape Leeuwin i due oceani che si incontrano sono l’oceano sud Pacifico e l’oceano Indiano. Oltre ad ammirare il punto d’incontro dei due differenti oceani, Cape Leeuwin offre anche un faro storico che con la sua altezza di 39 metri e la potenza d’illuminazione pari a 1 millione di candele si fà decisamente notare. Molti di voi si aspetteranno di vedere una differenza tra i due oceani, ad essere onesto questa differenza non è così marcata come si potrebbe pensare, a dir la verità io non l’ho proprio notata, anche perchè non vi è una netta differenza geografica, penso che per notare la differenza tra i due oceani bisogna andare più distante dal punto d’incontro di quest’ultimi, quello che si può notare è “lo scontro” tra le due correnti oceaniche, che rendono la zona movimentata, come potete notare dalle foto successive, nuotare vicino a riva è molto pericoloso, inoltre ho fatto un simpatico incontro con una “lucertola” del luogo, in inglese la chiamano blu tongue che significa lingua blu, proprio per via della sua lingua blu, anche se potrebbe sembrare innoqua questa simpatica bestiola ha una mascella molto potente, quindi evitate di farvi mordere, potreste ricordarvene per un bel po’…..

Cape Leeuwin is a small village into the Margaret River region, which is really popular for its wines and it is one of the few places on the world where there is the meeting point between two oceans, in this case between the Southern Pacific ocean and the Indian Ocean. Moreover Cape Leeuwin is offering to us a historical Lighthouse that with its 39 meter high and the power light same as a million of candles, it is quite impossible not to notice it. Most of you are expecting to see differences between the two ocean, well the differences are not so highlighted and to be hones I did not notice any difference, even because there is not a deep geographical difference in this area, I guess people can notice the differences between the two oceans far away form here, what I noticed was “the clash” of the two different ocean currents, which make the sea really animated, as you can see in the following photos, swimming close to the shore is not recommended. During this visit I had the chance to meet a really kind “lizard” which is named blue tongue, because of its tongue which is blue, well even if that kind animal seems not dangerous its jaw is really powerful and a bite could be remembered for long time….

It is time to climb up some trees

Prima di affrontare “la sfida” che vi racconterò più tardi c’è il tempo per godersi il panorama dagli alberi della Valley of the giants (la valle dei giganti) per poi scendere nel bosco e continuare il nostro viaggio tramite una bella camminata attraverso questi alberi fantastici.
Come già pre annunciato, questa è senza dubbio la parte più pericolosa della nostra gita, scalare il Gloucester tree. Bhe starete pensando, e che ci vuole a scalare un albero? Il Gloucester Tree è un albero gigante della famiglia dei Karri e si trova nel Gloucester National Park. Quest’albero è alto 76 metri ed è il secondo albero per osservare gli incendi più alto al mondo, oggi giorno quest’albero non è più utilizzato dai guardia foresta per osservare gli incendi ma è diventata una meta turistica, si calcola che solo il 20% dei turisti ha il coraggio di scalare quest’albero e raggiungere la cima e come potete notare dalle foto, la cosa è tutt’altro che facile….

Before facing the of “the challenge” which I want to tell you later, we have the time to enjoy the view from the middle of the trees located into the Valley of the giants and then going down into the bush and have a walk between these amazing trees.
As I told you before, this is for sure the most dangerous part of our trip, the climbing of the Gloucester tree. Well most of you are thinking, what is difficult in climbing up a tree? The Gloucester tree is a giant karri tree in the Gloucester National Park. The height of this tree is  76 meters and is world’s second tallest fire-lookout tree.
Nowadays the tree is not more used by the forest guard to lookout the fires but it has become a meeting point for tourists , it is calculated that only 20% of the tourists have the brave to climb the tree up to the top and as you will understand the reasons in the following photos, the thing is not so easy….

Like a paradise

Mare e spiaggia ecco quello che ci voleva in questa magnifica giornata di sole!!!
Greens Pool: Parte da qui il nostro giro, questa spiaggia si trova sulle coste sud-est Australiane tra Denmark e Walpole inoltre fà parte del William Bay National Park. La spiaggia è prevalentemente costituita da sabbie bianche ed inoltre è protetta da grossi blocchi di granito i quali proteggono la spiaggia dalle onde dell’oceano Pacifico. Come potete notare dall’abbigliamento, non era ancora abbastanza caldo per una bella nuotata, purtroppo ci siamo dovuti accontentare di una passeggiata in riva al mare, utile per godersi tutta la sua bellezza.
Elephant Rocks: Come si può intuire dalla traduzione le “roccie degli elefanti” devono il loro nome ad alcune roccie che richiamano la forma dell’elefante, esse si trovano a circa 200 metri da Greens Pool. All’interno di questa formazione rocciosa si è creata una specie di baia, l’acqua è sorprendentemente cristallina ed azzurra, inoltre il colore delle roccie fornisce un piacevole contrasto tra cielo, acqua e le roccie stesse. Esse possono essere viste dall’alto oppure si può scendere fino al livello del mare, ma la visuale più suggestiva rimane quella dall’alto. Questa baia era così tranquilla e rilassante che sembrava d’essere in paradiso, poi purtroppo la nostra guida ha interrotto il nostro momento di relax per riportarci sul furgoncino in direzione dell’ultima meta dalla giornata.
Tribal Law: Ed eccoci arrivati all’ultima tappa della giornata 😦   Tribal Law si trova nella regione di Margaret River ed è una spiaggia molto apprezzata tra i surfisti per via delle sue onde. La spiaggia in se è costituita da sabbia biancastra e molti scogli e proprio per la sue caratteristiche geologiche non viene utilizzata molto da chi ama fare il bagno e prendere il sole, infatti l’affluenza maggiore è costituita da surfisti e se guardate le varie onde nelle foto non vi sarà difficile capire il perchè. Utilizzo della spiaggia a parte, il panorama merita!!!

Beaches and seas, that is what I need in this sunny day!!!
Greens Pool: Our today’s trip starts here, this beach is on the south west Australian’s coast, between Denmark and Walpole and it is part of William Bay National Park. The beach is mostly made by white sand and it is protected by large granite stones which prevent the waves of the Pacific Ocean to reach the shoreline.
As you can notice from my clothes the weather is not warm enough for a good swim, we turned into a walk close to the sea which helped us to enjoy all the beauty of this beach.
Elephant Rocks: These rocks received the name from their shape which is similar to an elephant, these rocks are about 200 meters close to Greens Pool. A bay takes place into this rock formation where the water is surprisingly clear and blue, moreover the color of the stones makes a smooth contrast between the sky, the water and the stones themselves. These rocks can be watched from the top or even from the sea level but the most suggestive view is from the top. This bay is so quiet and relaxing that it seemed to be like in the heaven but after a while our tour guide brought us back to the reality, it was time to get on the bus for going to our last stop of the day.
Tribal Law: We unluckily arrived at the last stop of the day 😦    Tribal Law is into the Margaret River’s region and is a beach really appreciate from the surfers because it offers amazing waves. The beach has white sand and a lot of rocks and it is because of the geological constitution that it is not often used from the people whom love to swim and get tanned, in fact most of the people are surfers and if you give a look to the photos you will understand why it is used by the surfers. Anyways beside that the beach offers an amazing view!!!

Non c’è niente di più romantico che stare in spiaggia abbracciati alla persona a cui volete bene e guardarvi un bel tramonto, bhe se siete dalle parti di Perth questo non è affatto un problema visto che la costa occidentale dell’Australia offre tramonti fantastici, peccato che non avevo quasi mai la macchina fotografica con me 😦

There is nothing more romantic than being hugged by your love ones on the beach while watching the sunset. If you are around Perth, this is not a problem as the western part of Australia is well known for its amazing sunset. It’s a shame that I seldom brought my camera with me while I was there 😦

The perfect weekend

Come dice il titolo, il weekend trascorso a Rottnest Island è stato perfetto!!! Cosa l’ha reso perfetto? bhe semplice il gruppo di studenti ed insegnanti. Ma andiamo con ordine, per un weekend fantastico servono 3 cose essenziali, la prima cosa l’avevamo, un gruppo eccezionale, si trattava di recuperare le altre due cose, chi di voi indovina cosa? Facilissimo, cibo e drinks per il BBQ serale, ora si può dire tutto quello che si vuole sugli Svizzeri, ma di una cosa si può stare sicuri, ce la caviamo bene ad organizzare le cose e non siamo niente male con il BBQ, detto questo la logica ha fatto il resto, appena arrivati sull’isola ci siamo occupati di prendere tutto il necessario per passare una bellissima serata in compagnia. Espletato le formalità organizzative con shopping annesso, tutti in sella alle nostre bici per iniziare il giro dell’isola. Metro dopo metro ci si accorgeva che Rottnest Island è fantastica, abbiamo girato in lungo ed in largo l’isola senza dimenticarsi la pausa per una bella nuotata, il tempo è volato ed è arrivata l’ora di una bella birra ghiacciata tutti assieme giù in spiaggia, aspettando il tramonto. Trascorso il tramonto siamo ritornati al campo base per iniziare a preparare il BBQ e la tavola, qui un grazie ai cuochi è doveroso, siete stati grandi, la cena si è protratta fino a tarda notte ed il gruppo era molto affiatato, con vari scambi di idee e culture (il team era composto da Svizzeri, Brasiliani, Spagnoli, Giapponesi ed Australiani) in più abbiamo fatto un simpatico incontro con gli abitanti naturali dell’isola i quokkas!!! Il giorno dopo è stato dedicato al relax più totale, spiaggia, nuoto, snorkeling e divertimento, oltre che all’immancabile foto di gruppo, in poche parole un weekend fantastico, GRAZIE MILLE !!!

As the title had suggested, the weekend at Rottnest Island was simply perfect. Why was it perfect? It’s simple – students and teachers! Well, let me go into details to having an amazing weekend, besides having a great team, there are 2 other important components – food and booze for the BBQ! Swiss people are known for 2 things – organisation and BBQ skills. As soon as we arrived on the island, we got what we needed for the BBQ in the evening and even went for shopping. Thereafter, we took our bikes and cycled around the astonishing island and we even went for a relaxing swim. Time flew fast and it was time for an ice cold beer on the beach while waiting for the sun to set. We headed back to the camp thereafter and started preparing the BBQ. I want to thank all the people whom had helped in the cooking and setting of the tables, the dinner was delicious and the best that came out of this event was that the whole group of us was closely knitted. We chatted a lot that night, sharing our views on different cultures and ideas with friends from Swiss, Brazil, Spain, Japan and Australia, we also met up with the cute inhabitants of the island, the quokkas!!!  We chilled in the beach the next day, swimming, snorkelling, and played some fun games. In order to keep this beautiful memory, we took a team photo together. It was an impeccable weekend, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

A day into the desert

Questo è stato il mio primo viaggio in Australia, giusto un paio di giorni per adattarmi e pronti via per il Pinnacles Desert tour. La prima tappa del giorno è il Wildlife Cavarsham Parch, una specie di zoo dov’è stato possibile camminare tra i canguri e nutrirli ed accarezzare i Koala, un esperienza particolare, visto che mai prima d’ora avevo visto un canguro od un koala, finita la visita dello zoo siamo partiti in direzione di Cervantes, ad attenderci in questa località vi era un ricco buffet ed una spiaggia con la sabbia bianchissima. Dopo pranzo ci siamo diretti verso il Pinnacles Desert che si trova nei pressi del parco nazionale di Nambung. Il deserto prende il suo nome proprio dai “pinnacoli” che emergono dalla distesa di sabbia. Questi pinnacoli sono più che altro delle formazioni rocciose a base di calcare dalle più svariate forme e dimensioni. Pare che l’origine di questi “pinnacoli” sia causata da organismi viventi che depositavano materiale calcareo sul fondale marino; l’emersione di quest’ultimo ed i vari processi erosivi hanno mutato nel tempo i “pinnacoli” fino a diventare quello che oggi è conosciuto come Pinnacle Desert. Da un deserto all’altro, ma questa volta è tempo di darsi al divertimento con una buona mezzora di sand board e devo dire la verità, non è facile stare in piedi mentre si scende tra le dune!!! La giornata sta per concludersi, c’è giusto il tempo di godersi l’inizio del tramonto dal deserto, con il mare come sfondo, per poi ripartire in direzione di Perth, la mia prima gita Australiana è stata positiva.

This was the first trip I attended in Australia, it passed only few days from my arrival and let’s go to Pinnacles Desert Tour. The first stop of the day is the Wildlife Cavarsham Parch, which is a kind of zoo but with the possibility to walk through the Kangaroos, feed them and pet the Koalas, it was a particular experience as I have never tried it before. When the Zoo’s visit finished, we moved to Carvantes, where a rich buffet was waiting for us, moreover after the lunch we went to a beach with a surprisingly white sand. The time for the beach is over, let’s go to the desert! Pinnacles Desert is close to the National Park of Nambung. The desert took its name because of the pinnacles which emerge from the sand. These pinnacles are almost made by calcareous material and they have different shapes and sizes. The Pinnacles were made by marine life which deposited calcareous material on the seabed, once the seabed emerged, the erosion processes had made all the rest during the centuries until the creation of the nowadays Pinnacles Desert. Once the walk into the Pinnalces finished it was time to go to another desert, but this time was for having fun, how? Sand board is what you are looking for, and to be honest, it is not as easy as it seems to stand up during the dunes descent, anyways we had fun for about half a hour and our day ended with the view of the sunset’s beginning from the desert, with the sea as background. In conclusion my first trip in Australia was a positive experience.

Looking for…. some Penguins

Oggi è il giorno giusto per trovare qualche pinguino nell’ambiente naturale, ma da dove iniziare? La risposta più logica è Penguin Island. Partenza da Perth in direzione dell’isola, durante il tragitto pausa obbligatoria per salutare i delfini ed ammirarli mentre sguazzano pacificamente nel mare, non sò se eravamo più curiosi noi o i delfini, fatto stà che i nostri amici pinnuti non erano per nulla intimoriti dalla barca ed arrivavano vicinissimo a noi. Finito il tempo a disposizione per i delfini ripartiamo per l’isola. Quest’isola è caratterizzata dalla parte “civilizzata” con un centro di addestramento per pinguini, il porto ed i servizi igenici, mentre il resto dell’isola è molto “wild”. Imperterrito nel mio scopo, parto ad esplorare la parte wild dell’isola, inizialmente mi imbatto in un lucertolone di circa 50 cm, poi arrivo ad una spiaggia dove vi era la presenza di pellicani e gabbiani ed alla fine quando le speranze di trovare un pinguino in natura erano minime, proprio in un angolo dell’isola ho trovato una coppia di pinguini in una grotta, la soddisfazione della “scoperta” era elevata, chiaramente il mio scopo non era disturbare la loro esistenza quindi sono stato solo il tempo per fare un paio di scatti ed ho continuato ad esplorare l’isola, altre scoperte? bhe si, ho trovato un granchio nastosto tra delle rocce!!! Soddisfatto dei recenti incontri mi sono diretto al centro di addestramento dove ho assistito allo spettacolo dei pinguini per poi ritornare a Perth.

I feel that today is the right day to find a penguin into the wildlife, but where? The more logical answer is Penguin Island. The tour begun from Perth but we did not go straight to the Island, we made a stop for greetings the dolphins and admiring them while there were peacefully splashing in the sea, I do not know who was more curious between me and the dolphins as our friendly fins friends were not afraid at all of the boat and they arrived really close to us. Once the dolphin time expired we moved to the Island. This island has two different face, the first one is the civilized one, where you can find a penguin training center, the jetty and all the facilities and the second one which is really wild. But today I had a personal mission, finding a penguin, so I started to explore the wild part of the island, at the beginning of my exploration I found a 50 cm lizard, then I arrived in a beach where I found a lot of pelicans and seagulls, my expectations to find a penguin dropped down but when I least expected it, I found a couple of penguins in a small cave, the satisfaction of the discovery was really high, obviously my goal was not to disturb them a lot, so I stayed there only the time to take some photos and I continued my exploration, any other discovery? Of course yes, I found a crab hidden between the rocks!!! These discoveries made my day so I decided to go back to the penguin training center where I witnessed the spectacle of the Penguins before going back to Perth.

The discovery of Australian’s animals

Queste sono foto riguardanti alcuni trà i più famosi animali Australiani, le quali sono state fatte allo Zoo di Perth ed al Wildlife Cavarsham Parch, non ho molto da dire in merito a queste foto ma ci tengo a ringraziane Belle e San-Ying per la bellissima giornata passata insieme, lo Zoo, il tramonto e la cena, siete state le migliori compagne di classe di sempre!!!

These are photos about some of the most popular Australian’s animals which were taken at the Perth Zoo and the Wildlife Cavarsham Parch, I do not have much to tell you about the photo but I really want to say thanks to Belle and San-Ying for the amazing day spent togheter, the Zoo, the sunset and at the end the dinner, you were the best classmates I have ever had!!!

Fremantle

Fremantle è una piccola cittadina vicino a Perth, essa è molto famosa per la sua prigione che è oggi un’importante meta turistica. Durante il mio soggiorno a Perth sono stato a Fremantle per svariati motivi, anche se questa piccola cittadina non ha nulla a che vedere con Perth, ha comunque il suo fascino particolare, inoltre ci sono delle pizzerie fantastiche!!! La prima volta che ho visitato Fremantle era per il Night Prison Tour, le mie compagne di avventura erano Wandy, Ling, Yuwen e San-Ying. La gita nella prigione è stata istruttiva e divertente, merito anche dei “carcerati” che saltavano fuori dall’oscurità stile casa dell’orrore al Luna Park. Di questo posto conservo anche momenti romantici, come la cena con Sunny oppure le varie gite con lei e le sue amiche. Inoltre vi è un museo marittimo che vale la pena di visitare, in poche parole se siete dalle parti di Perth, Fremantle diventa un must do!!!

Fremantle is a small town close to Perth, it is popular for its prison which today is an important touristic attraction. During my staying in Perth I have gone in Fremantle for more than a reason, even if this is a small town it has a particular appeal, even more the pizzerie are great!!! The first time I went to Fremantle was for the Night prison tour, my adventure friends were Wandy, Ling, Yuwen and San-Ying. The tour was quite interesting and funny as the fake prisoners jumped out from the dark like to be in the horror house at the Luna Park. From this place I even remember romantic time, like the dinner with Sunny or the tours with her and her friends. If you are interested in marine history there is a good museum which I suggest you, at the end in few words if you are around Perth, then Fremantle become a must do!!!
